I wrote this for my son Jordan after he was diagnosed with Autism - we will find a cure
There was a boy who lived up the street when I was just a kid
My dad said he was retarded
I walked by his house one day he was riding on his tricycle
Riding circles in his yard
He didn't seem to see me there or notice the world around him
But there was something about him that was calling out to me
If you look at me I will look the other way
But that doesn't mean that I don't need you to care for me
If you touch my hand I will pull it away
But that doesn't mean that I don't need you to love me
Some day I'm going to break out of this prison
If you will just believe in me
I woke up at 3 am my son was sitting by the window
Staring blankly at the night
I reached out to touch him and he screamed and pulled away
Suddenly I remembered
He didn't seem to see me there or notice the world around him
